Hydraulic equipment is widespread in the construction and manufacturing industry because of its ability to optimize and simplify work. However, equipment that uses hydraulic systems requires regular maintenance if you are to prevent sudden pressure loss, leaks, and subsequent damage to the whole thing. Also, servicing the machine ensures that you avoid injuries that may stem from the hydraulic system malfunctioning. A planned maintenance schedule, therefore, can make or break your hydraulic system. Avoid losing money by reviewing the following hydraulic maintenance tips.

Oil and Additives — Base oil and synthetic additives help to prevent corrosion and rusting because they lubricate all components in the hydraulic cylinder. There is no recommended duration for replacing the base oil that helps components like piston seals to operate optimally. However, depending on the use of the equipment, your hydraulic expert can conduct a system analysis to determine if the oil needs replacing, especially if it has depleted.

Cleaning — The cleanliness of the cylinder and the pressure fluid is crucial to the entire hydraulic system. Impurities in the hydraulic fluid can cause the system to lose pressure and eventually break down. By regularly servicing the filtration mechanism, you guarantee that the fluid is clean all the time. This way, the hydraulic cylinder and valves will perform optimally, last longer, and yield the needed pressure required for the machine to work.

Hydraulic Pipes — These pipes help to ease the flow of the pressure fluid between components in the hydraulic cylinder. The heat generated in the system can damage these tubes; thus, your mechanic should repair or replace them as soon as possible. Excess heat can also cause the hoses to swell, depressurizing the cylinder. The risk of overheating the pipes is that the piston seals can also be damaged in the process. Furthermore, busted pipes can gush out hot oil, posing a danger to workers.

Filter Installation and Replacement — Never attempt to install filters if you do not have prior knowledge of the functioning of the hydraulic system. The system has a complicated filtration system that only an expert can troubleshoot. A qualified hydraulic mechanic will know the right type of filter for your equipment after auditing it. The mechanic will also save you money because they will know the appropriate time to replace the filters. The recommended replacement criterion is when the filters have accumulated dirt and debris to maximum capacity. However, how do you know when the maximum capacity has been attained? A sudden drop in the pressure of the hydraulic fluid can be a good indicator. Some systems also have indicators to show the level of clogging, which can help the expert know when it is the right time to replace the filters.
